The church of St. Paul is a building of stone in the Gothic style, consisting of chancel and nave, south porch and a bell cot containing one bell; the east window was erected by subscription as a memorial to the late Daniel McKecknie M.R.C.S. Edin.: there are 300 sittings. The register dates from the year 1877. The living is a vicarage, yearly value, £290, with residence, in the gift of the Crown and Bishop alternately, and held since 1878 by the Rev. Charles Aubrey T.A.K.C.L. [Kelly's Directory of Durham and Northumberland (1890), page 433.]
