The church of St George, built in 1877, at a cost of £4,500, defrayed by the Earl of Durham, is a building of red brick in the Gothic style, consisting of chancel, nave, north transept, south porch, and a small turret with spire at the north-east angle of the nave containing one bell: there are 300 sittings. The register dates from the year 1876. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £300, with residence, in the gift of the Earl of Durham, and held since 1876 by the Rev.
