Christ Church, erected in 1859, and consecrated in 1861, is an edifice of stone in a Geometrical Decorated style, and consists of chancel, nave, north porch, and a tower with spire containing one bell: there are 300 sittings. [Kelly's Durham Directory (1914) page 301.]

Newcastle Courant 7/11/1862 LUMLEY CHURCH.- The fee for baptism has been abolished at this church, and a chest, placed in the porch for the reception of thank offerings, has been substituted.
