Church

The church of All Saints is a building of stone in the Gothic style, erected 1868, consisting of chancel, nave, north and west porches, and a western tower, with spire, containing a clock and 3 bells: the bells and clock were presented by the late Joseph Pease esq.: in 1884 an east lancet window was filled with stained glass by the present vicar, as a memorial to his eldest son, Henry Helm Pemberton Greene: an organ was erected by subscription in 1885: there are 460 sittings. The register dates from 1868. The living is a vicarage, in the gift of the Bishop of Durham, yearly value £300, with residence, and held since 1883 by the Rev. Henry Greene M.A., of St John's College, Cambridge. [Kelly's Directory of Durham and Northumberland (1890), page 282.]
