The church of St. Andrew is an ancient stone building in the Early English style: it has nave, aisles, chancel, transept, tower, and 2 bells. The register dates from about the year 1610. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £500, with a good residence, in the gift of the Dean and Chapter of Durham, and held by the Rev. Udrey John Thomas Allen, M.A., of Magdalen College, Oxford. [Kelly's Directory of Durham and Northumberland (1873), page 39.]
