Church

The Church, dedicated to St. Bartholomew, is a plain stone structure, erected in 1843, at a cost of £900, which was defrayed by subscriptions, and by grants from the various church building societies. It consists of nave and chancel, and will accomodate about 500 persons. The patronage is vested in the Bishop of Durham and the Vicar of Kelloe, who present alternately. The Rev. William A. Shute, M.A., is the present incumbent. [Whellan's History, Topography and Directory of Durham (and Newcastle) (1856), page 609.]
