Church

The Church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is a neat stone edifice, erected in the year 1841, and, with the school, cost £2,000, which was defrayed partly by subscriptions, and partly by grants from the ecclesiastical commissioners. It comprises nave, with aisles, and chancel, and contains 450 sittings, 225 of which are free and unappropriated. Patron, the Bishop of Durham; incumbent, the Rev. E.N.V. Boydell, who resides at the Parsonage, a short distance from the church. [Whellan's History, Topography and Directory of Durham (and Newcastle) (1856), page 613.]
