History

Newcastle Courant 17/3/1848 Yesterday forenoon, a new church, dedicated to St Cuthbert, was consecrated at Gateshead, by the Lord Bishop of Durham. It is erected on the Windmill Hills, near Bensham, and will be a great accommodation to a large and increasing population. There was a numerous attendance of the neighbouring clergy and gentry.
