Church

Chopwell was made a separate parish for ecclesiastical purposes in 1916, and includes Blackhall Mill and part of High Spen. The parish church is dedicated to St. John. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £250, with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Durham, and held since 1916 by the Rev. Angus Macdonald B.A. Cantab.
