Church

The church of St. Nicholas, originally erected in 1832, was pulled down in 1898 and a new church erected at a cost of £5,400, and consecrated 29 April, 1901, by the Bishop of Durham: the font, of Caen stone, was given by the mothers of the parish: it is in the Early English style: a new organ was inserted in 1908 at a cost of about £800: five of the windows are stained: there are 800 sittings.
