Church

The church of St. Aidan is a building of stone, in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave, aisles, north porch and a belfry containing 2 bells: there are sittings for 540 persons. The register of St. Cuthbert's, West Herrington, serves for the new parish and dates from 1840. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £300, with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of Durham, and held by the Rev. Thomas Frederick Paterson M.A. of Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
