The church of St. Mary the Virgin, rebuilt in 1864, at a cost of £6,000, is an edifice of stone in the earliest Middle Pointed style, and the design is characterized by exceeding loftiness; it consists of chancel, nave, aisles, north and south porches and a tower at the north-west angle, with spire rising to an altitude of 130 feet, and containing a clock with one bell: the spire and tower were the gift of Sir George Elliot, 3rd bart. M.P. (d.1904); in the nave of the church is a tablet commemorating the building of the tower and spire; the granite of which it is composed was cut from part of a block obtained by Sir George Elliot from the great pyramid of Ghizeh in Egypt: the church was restored in 1895 at a cost of £1,700, chiefly given by the Marquess of Londonderry and others: there are 420 sittings.
