By an order in Council, gazetted on the 14th November, 1911, part of the ecclesiastical parish of Whitburn St. Mary, containing 270 families (or separate occupiers) and 1,466 population at the date of the Census, was constituted the new ecclesiastical parish of Cleadon All SS. The new parish includes the South Shields Union Workhouse Cottage Homes.
