Church

The church of St. John the Evangelist is of stone, in the Early English style, erected in 1867: it is an oblong edifice, with apse chancel, and designed to seat about 170 persons. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £300 (less £13 for glebe), with residence, in the gift of the Crown and the Bishop of Durham alternately, and held by the Rev. Wesley Farrar, M.A., of New Inn Hall, Oxford. [Kelly's Directory of Northumberland and Durham (1873), page 29.]
