Church

The church of St. Paul is a small unpretending building, in the Norman style, and has chancel, nave, and 1 bell. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £300, in the gift of the Bishop and Crown alternately, and held by the Rev. Thomas Henry Thompson, M.A., of University College, Durham. The Ecclesiastical Commissioners are the lords of the manor, and they, with the Rev. R.H. Williamson, are the principal landowners. [Kelly's Directory of Durham and Northumberland (1873), page 28.]
