Church

St. Paul's, Hendon, is an ecclesiastical parish, formed March 3,1852, from Bishopwearmouth: the church, in Meaburn street, Hendon, consecrated on November 15, 1852, is a building of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave and aisles: several of the windows are stained: there are 800 sittings. The register dates from the year 1852. The living is a rectory, net yearly value £444, with residence, in the gift of the rector of Bishopwearmouth, and held since 1919 by the Rev. Archibald Mackay L.Th. of Durham University. [Kelly's Durham Directory (1925), page 456.]
