St. Gabriel's is an ecclesiastical parish, formed in 1904 from Bishopwearmouth; the church, consecrated May, 1912, situated in Kayll road, is an edifice of stone, costing about £11,000. The register dates from the year 1901. The living is a vicarage, net yearly value £433 in the gift of the rectors of Bishopwearmouth, and held since 1922 by the Rev.
