Church

A fine Victorian Gothic building with a plain exterior and an unexpectedly pleasing interior, set in a spacious churchyard with an attractive Lych Gate. Some good modern woodwork includes an altar and reredos and communion rails, given as memorials to various members of the Milburn family of Guyzance. [The Newcastle Diocesan Gazetteer (1982), page 91.]


The lych gate has a plaque bearing this inscription:

RENOVATED
ON THE OCCASION OF
THE CORONATION
OF
QUEEN ELIZABETH II
JUNE 2ND 1953

The seat in the churchyard extention bears this inscription:

THIS SEAT WAS MADE BY MEMBERS OF
NORTH SHIELDS DAY CENTRE
INSTALLED BY COMMUNITY SERVICES AND DONATED BY
NORTHUMBRIA PROBATION SERVICE IN MEMORY OF
CHRISTOPHER SADLER (1939-1987).
