Church

The chapel, dedicated to St. Hilda, was rebuilt by the Rev. Dr. Sharpe in 1766, for which he was paid £100. This was an extremely plain structure, consisting of four walls and a roof, and so it remained until 1874, when the present edifice was built by the Duke of Northumberland, the patron of the living. It consists of a nave and chancel, with bell cot at the west end, and will accommodate 170 persons. [Bulmer's History, Topography and Directory of Northumberland (1887), p.728.]
