Church

There was a chapel in the village in the mid-thirteenth century which was still used as late as 1750 but afterwards fell into ruin. Until 1860 it was part of Ellingham parish but the relationship was such that the parishioners of South Charlton had to be ordered to attend the parish church. Now part of the Glendale group of parishes served by the team clergy. [The Newcastle Diocesan Gazetteer (1982), page 108.]
