Church

The church of Mark (at Ninebanks) was rebuilt in the Early English style in 1871: it is a neat stone structure, with nave, and square tower surmounted by a handsome stone spire; there is also a porch and vestry. F. Hasewell, esq., of North Shields, was the architect: it was erected at a cost of £900, collected mainly by the exertions of the present vicar. The register dates from the year 1764. The living is a vicarage, yearly value £163, with residence, in the gift of the rector of Allendale, and held by the Rev. Jonathan Scurr, of St. Bees. [Kelly's Directory of Northumberland and Durham (1873), page 484.]
