The parish of Seaton Hirst was taken out of Woodhorn parish in 1905 to serve the growing mining community. The church which had been built in 1896 was enlarged at this time. A further chapel was built in 1945 and then the whole church was re-ordered in the early 1960s. [The Newcastle Diocesan Gazetteer (1982), page 118.]
