Church

The church of St. Mary is a neat stone building, restored in 1843, in the Early English and Norman styles. consisting of chancel, nave, low tower, and old porch: it contains three stained glass memorial windows of the Cresswell family, and also one to the Watson family: there are several marble tablets to these families. The register dates from the year 1605. The living is a vicarage, with the chapelries of Newbiggin and Cresswell annexed, joint yearly value £600, in the gift of the Bishop of Durham, and held by the Rev. Edward Nangreave Mangin, M.A., of Wadham College, Oxford. [Kelly's Directory of Northumberland and Durham (1873), page 686.]

Newcastle Courant 22/4/1826 [death] On the 7th inst. at Woodhorn Moor, Joseph Pigg, aged 18, son of the late Mr Thomas Pigg.

Newcastle Courant 20/6/1845 The Rev. T.R. Shipperdson, Vicar of Woodhorn, has received from Mrs Lawrence, of Studley Park, the liberal donation of £10 in aid of the funds for the rebuilding of Newbiggin Church.
